In 2025, Before and After School Programs (BASP) were closed in 4 schools in Huron County. This leaves one third of schools across the Avon Maitland and Huron Perth Catcholic School Boards without BASP. These extended day programs can be operated by either a third party, or the school board themselves. There are several school boards in Ontario that run their own BASP including Waterloo Region, Waterloo Catholic, Halton and Ottawa-Carlton District School Boards.
BASP are funded by parent fees, not the Ministry of Education. We are asking the school boards to leverage their existing resources, facilities, and supply staffing lists to help staff these programs, as is done by the other school boards listed above.
